D. Gaines Lanier Chairman and CEO
Lanier joined J. Smith Lanier & Co. in 1976, became President and COO in 1986, became CEO in 1999, and became CEO and Chairman of the Board in 2003. During his leadership tenure, the company has grown from a small local insurance agency with 20 employees and $10 million in premium volume into the 30th largest insurance brokerage in the U.S. and the 11th largest privately owned broker in the U.S. Lanier is currently on the CIAB board.
During his career he has served on numerous insurance advisory boards including most recently as a member of the prestigious IIABA Roundtable for large brokers (from 2003 to 2005). Other notations and held offices in his career include serving as Young Agents of Georgia Chairman (1987-1988), elected to Auburn University Board of Trustees, Past President of West Georgia Insurance Agents Association, First Chairman of Chattahoochee Insurance Company Limited, Hartford – VIP Agent, Agency Solutions International, Inc. Board Member, President’s Council for Safeco Property/Casualty, Best of the St. Paul Top Brass Agent’s Council, and State Auto – Inner Circle designation. |

J. Smith Lanier II Chairman Emeritus
A graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, Smith Lanier brings over 50 years experience in the insurance industry and currently serves as the Chairman Emeritus of J. Smith Lanier & Co. Smith has earned several honors over the years, including the Founders Award from the Atlanta Christian College and the 1998 National Small Business Person of the Year award. He has served on the Board of Trustees for Oglethorpe University, LaGrange College, Auburn University Foundation School of Human Sciences, and United States Merchant Marine Academy. In addition to being on the Board of Directors of J. Smith Lanier & Co., Smith has Directorship in ITC Holding Company, Inc., Interface, Inc., and Fellowship of Companies for Christ International. |

William T. Parr, Jr. "In Memory" January 30,1937-June 22, 2009 Vice-Chairman Emeritus
For two years following his graduation from Georgia State University in 1960 where he earned a BS degree in math, Bill Parr, Jr. worked as a stock broker with Budd Company. In 1962, Bill joined Continental Insurance Company in the retirement special planning department, working his way up to become the Regional Vice President in charge of Life, Group, and Retirement Special Planning. In 1980, Bill joined J. Smith Lanier & Co. as the Vice-Chairman and head of the Financial Services division. Bill served J. Smith Lanier & Co. from 1980-2009 with exceptional leadership and dedication and he will be deeply missed. |

Gary E. Ivey President and COO
Gary has served on the Board of Directors and is in charge of Commercial Insurance Products for the company. He is responsible for new product development, market development and perpetuation. Gary obtained a BS degree from Tennessee Wesleyan College and began his career in the insurance industry 30 years ago as an adjuster for a major insurance company. He has remained a student of the insurance industry obtaining the professional designation of AAI, CLU, AIC, ARM, and CPCU. |

Frank E. Plan Chief Financial Officer
Frank has over fifteen years of experience in the insurance industry and ten years with J. Smith Lanier & Co. Prior to joining J. Smith Lanier & Co., Frank was a Senior Manager in Ernst & Young's Southeast Region Insurance Services Group. As J. Smith Lanier & Co.'s Chief Financial Officer, Frank is responsible for all aspects of the Company's financial management, financial reporting and mergers and acquisition activity. He is an active member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Alabama Society of CPAs. Frank is a 1987 graduate of the University of Alabama - Birmingham with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. |

Robert Culpepper Executive Vice President
Robert W. Culpepper has more than 21 years experience with J. Smith Lanier & Co. and specializes in insuring its larger self insured
retentions, risk transfers, and self insurance accounts. In addition to
handling sales, marketing and servicing for one of the largest books of national and regional commercial accounts in the company, Robert also serves as the Managing Director for the Columbus, Georgia location.
A proven leader and mentor, Robert is dedicated to providing growth and
development opportunities to J. Smith Lanier & Co. producers who are new to the industry. A graduate of the University of Georgia School of
Business, Robert has served on several broker/insurance company councils and holds an associate in risk management (ARM) designation. |

K. Scott Crawford Executive Vice President
Scott has been with JSL for 21 years working with the Atlanta brokerage unit on many of its larger and more complex accounts. He handles numerous types of customers ranging from large national accounts to middle market business. He has experience dealing with Alternative Risk approaches ranging from large deductibles, self-insurance and captives and he is responsible for sales, marketing and servicing one of the largest books of business in the company. Scott also serves on numerous insurance carrier producer panels and works directly with our private equity and telecommunication practice groups.
Scott received his BBA in Risk Management and Insurance from the University of Georgia. He holds the Accredited Advisor of Insurance Designation (AAI) and is currently pursuing the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designations. |
