West Point, Georgia--J. Smith Lanier & Co., one of the oldest, largest and most respected independent insurance brokerage firms in the country, is pleased to announce they have signed an agreement effective August 1, 2006, to join companies with Saussy Insurance of Waycross, Georgia, and will operate under the name J. Smith Lanier & Co.

The announcement was made by D. Gaines Lanier, Chairman and CEO of J. Smith Lanier & Co. Lanier said, "We are pleased to have Saussy Insurance join the J. Smith Lanier & Co. team. Similar to our own history, Saussy Insurance has been family owned and operated through several generations. As we look to the future, these are the kind of committed, knowledgeable people we want to grow with."

The Saussy agency was originally founded in 1928 by George Fesperman, a well known Waycross businessman. Jack Saussy Sr. joined the firm in 1962 and eventually renamed the company Saussy Insurance in 1975. Jack Saussy Jr. became President in 1998 and has continued the agency growth by specializing in employee benefits and commercial property & casualty insurance.
