West Point, Georgia—J. Smith Lanier & Co. is proud to announce $215,000 was recently raised at the Third Annual J. Smith Lanier & Co. Charity Classic to Benefit the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children.

The event was held at Chateau Elan Golf Club on Tuesday, May 8th, 2007. Over 375 golfers from around the southeast and 10 BTFC teens/young adults and their families were on hand to play golf and meet the sponsors. One golfer, John James from Waycross, Georgia, even shot a Hole In One at The Woodlands Course and won a 2007 Lexus ES 350, graciously donated by Hennessy Automobile Company in Atlanta, Georgia.

“J. Smith Lanier & Co. was honored to be the primary corporate sponsor of the Third Annual J. Smith Lanier & Co. Charity Golf Classic for the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children. We would like to extend a special thank you to the many sponsors and volunteers. Because of their generosity, more children and their families will be able to benefit from the many types of support the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children offers to families dealing with this devastating diagnosis,” said J. Smith Lanier & Co. Chairman and CEO, Gaines Lanier.

Mary Campbell, executive director of the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children said, “J. Smith Lanier & Co.’s support of our organization through its title sponsorship of this tournament the last three years has attracted other sponsorship and financial support necessary for us to reach out to children and families treated in our neighboring states of Alabama, Tennessee, and Florida and now South Carolina, Mississippi and Louisiana. We couldn’t possibly ask for more than that.”

The Brain Tumor Foundation for Children’s “Butterfly Fund” provides critical financial assistance for families coping with the diagnosis of a brain tumor in a child. The Foundation also provides support in the form of education and information; networking for parents; a quarterly newsletter; social outings; educational scholarships; and year-round emotional support and understanding for the entire family. Additionally, BTFC’s funding of research projects helps to ensure that one day a cure will be found for the disease that is now the leading cancer cause of death in children.
