J. SMITH LANIER & CO. PROMOTES FREDDIE B. HOOD TO CONTROLLER |

WEST POINT, GA – J. Smith Lanier & Co., one of the country’s oldest and largest independent insurance brokerage firms, announced the promotion of Freddie B. Hood to Controller. In her new role, Hood will be responsible for coordinating and directing financial planning, managing records/budgets and preparing financial reports, overseeing cash and debt management, delegating authority for funds and maintaining current knowledge of accounting policies and standards. “With Freddie’s knowledge and years of experience here at J. Smith Lanier, she brings solid accounting skills and leadership into this area of JSL financial management. Working with Chief Financial Officer Frank Plan, her positive attitude and exemplary work ethic will continue to inspire those around her, and all of us on the JSL Team,” says JSL Chairman and CEO D. Gaines Lanier. Hood was previously manager of Accounting at the JSL West Point office. She has been employed at JSL since 1981, when she began working in Accounts Payable. In 2002, Hood received the Edith Lanier Wickham “Living the Vision” Award, which honored her for her outstanding service to the company. She serves as Youth Sunday School Director and is on the Personnel Ministry Team at Lanett First Baptist Church. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Valley United Fund and is a Bread Basket Volunteer. A native of LaFayette, Ala., she is married to Larry Hood, also from Lanett. They have two sons.
