J. Smith Lanier & Co., Vice President, Thomas Younger, Awarded National Underwriter Company’s Group Benefits Disability Specialist

 

- Huntsville, Alabama—J. Smith Lanier & Co. is pleased to announce W. Thomas Younger, Charter Life Underwriter, (CLU) has completed the qualifications for and has been awarded The National Underwriter Company’s Group Benefits Disability Specialist designation. He is one of only 60 benefit specialists in the country to currently have this degree. Thomas Younger, CLU, earned this designation as a student of a week long program that was delivered in Hartford, Connecticut, from November 7 - November 11, 2005.

The objectives of the National Underwriter Company’s Group Benefits Disability Specialist (GBDS) program are to:

• Communicate to employers and the public the importance of group disability income protection and the consequences of inadequate disability coverage.
• Communicate to insurance industry leaders and regulators the importance and value a group disability professional designation though content that is objective, neutral and free of bias by any company or product.
• Establish high standards of performance for those who earn the designation by requiring the demonstration of specific skill.
• Provide ongoing skill development to designees through continuing education programs and other services.
• Establish a high level of moral and ethical conduct within the group disability benefits industry by detailing market conduct responsibilities.

The GBDS program provides an expanded view into group disability coverages including group disability contract language, underwriting and rating of group coverages, and various administrative aspects including taxation of benefits, reserving and confidentiality of employee data.

Younger has been a Senior Vice President of J. Smith Lanier & Co. in Huntsville since 1991. He is a member of Charter Life Underwriters, Treasurer of the Society of Financial Service Professionals and a member of the Alabama and National Health and Life Underwriters.
